Flooding is one of Florida’s most frequent hazards. Flooding can occur at any time of the year, whether there’s a lot of rain in a short period of time or a single heavy storm, hurricane, or tropical system. When Hurricane Debbie passed 100 miles off the west coast of Florida in August of 2024, the storm brought more than 18” of rain to the Lakewood Ranch area, resulting in widespread flooding.
